My experience and style
As a Program Manager, I was faced with myriad challenges and limited resources. I led a cross functional team - setting strategy, managing competing priorities, leading and encouraging innovation, and advocating for needed changes. My management style is one that balances intuition with data analysis, organizational tools, and careful risk assessments.
My methods are honed for small teams, up to approximately 30 people, but scale from sole proprietor to larger teams. While the bulk of my experience is running small technical teams within large organizations, I have co-founded a small non-profit, and do many personal projects in photography and design. The systems and structures for setting strategy and managing projects are as successfully applied to non-profits and small businesses as they are corporations and government and apply equally to creative fields and technical teams.
How I Work with Clients
I will work with you to establish systems and structures to prioritize competing tasks, optimize use of limited resources,  break large projects into manageable pieces, and identify risks and potential mitigations. As these tools fall into place, you will use them to set and achieve mid and long term strategies.
Why Coaching?
There are many reasons that coaching might be the right answer.  I get you on the right track and then become your support system when you need it. The transition into management is not easy, and so often we are left to figure it out on our own. Any of these sound familiar?
You have built your business to a point that you have too many projects and not enough time.
You have a great team, but there is so much to do that many team members feel overwhelmed.
You have all these metrics, but don't know how to make use of them or which to pay attention to.
Something about a project has you feeling unsettled, but you cannot put your finger on it.
You were so efficient and effective as a subject matter expert, but now find yourself in a management role and frequently wonder where your time is going.
If any of these feel familiar, or you just feel like you could use help getting systems in place and navigating conflicting priorities, some one-on-one coaching can help.
Team Training
Team training sessions in Project and Program Management might be the right solution if you have a group of new managers needing support and training, want to establish a common management framework among exiting team members, are starting in on a new challenging project, or simply want to offer skill development.  I offer team training in the following topics.
Risk and Opportunity Management
Objective Prioritization and Resource Management
Strategic Planning
Contingency Planning and Preparing for Rapid Response
Change Management
Team training classes are run in a workshop format. I will come with my own case studies, but we will also use your challenges as worked examples to help your team truly relate to the material and get the most out of the class.
